The car was going fast on such a rainy night, and the claps of thunder accompanied the iron chariot as it burst through the veils of rain water. A man was in this car, his trenchcoat soaked from the downpours that he was standing in, previously. A small child sat beside him, looking out the window of the vehicle. "Grandpa's gonna make it all okay...", the man continued to quietly reassure. However, the man slowed down. Ahead was a shadowy outline of something blocking the road. A man stood on one side of the road, waving his hands to stop the vehicle. When the car came to a stop, the lights focused on what was in the way: another car.

The man who was waving his hands in the roadway ran up to the car, knocking on the window. Slowly, the old man cracked his window, as not to allow the man to get in, if that's what he was looking for.  The man huffed as the glass came far enough down to speak through. "I don't know what's wrong...but my car just stalled. Can you help me get it out of the roadway?" The child stared at the man and his grandfather, biting his lower lip. "Yeah...", the old man's raspy voice answered, his hand on the keys of the ignition, turning off the car. As he rolled the window back up, he turned to the child and glared. "Stay in the car, no matter what..."

The boy watched as the old man placed the hood of his trenchcoat over his head, following the man in the yellow pancho toward the car that was stalled in the middle of the roadway. The man opened a door, going through a tool box on the floor as he spoke to the older gentleman. "I think it might be a wire on the battery. If it is, I can tighten it..." he said, taking out a monkey wrench to show to the man who stood somewhat behind him. However, the man's true intent lay in the toolbox. Slowly, so that the man couldn't see it, he placed a revolver in his pocket within his coat. The weapon was fully loaded, however, no one but he knew what was happening.

"Can we just hurry up? I'm rushed." The old man's reply was very loud, so much so that the child in the car could hear him over the pounding water. The child shook just a bit after hearing that man's voice; even he could tell something wasn't right. The man stood back from his car and nodded as the old man glared. However, the man's face soon reflected a more angered look, his hands gripping and withdrawing the pistol. The child in the car looked on with fear, sitting just a bit lower in his seat. The old man seemed to jeer angrilly, his hands reaching toward his pocket to hand over whatever this madman wanted. Hopefully, he could get away...the sirens were getting closer. Four...no, five police cruisers were approaching, fast. The gunman sneered and pulled the trigger. The powerful magnum released it's first bullet, followed by a howling blast of three more rounds. The old man fell as the gunman ran up and held a finger to his neck. Satisfied that he was dead, he made his way to the car.

The cruisers came to screeching stops as the man opened the door and took the child out, having his knife in the hand where the pistol had been. The police started to yell at the man to drop the weapon, but his intentions soon became clear...

...he cut the ropes the boys hands were tied with, holding up a badge...

...yet again, Officer Daniels had returned a child home, and the old man who'd kidnapped him lay on that rainsoaked asphalt, his own pistol cluched in his grip.
Deep thoughts, but deep meaning. Sorry I keep placing these short stories, but I'm trying to get noticed! :p

No disclaimer needed, and as for thanks...well, none are necessary. Just know this is mine, and I really don't want it copied. Gawd I need to learn how to draw and stop annoying you peeps...

I really do so like. I did see the twist coming, but I'm the sort that expects them. Always love for good twists. *faves*
